Kelly Clarkson hangs on to post-holiday No. 1
There's nothing like the sudden disappearance of an entire format to really shake up a radio chart.
That's just what happens this week to the American Idol airplay chart as stations across the country drop their holiday formats for their regularly scheduled programming.
Actually, it doesn't affect the two top tunes much: Kelly Clarkson's Mr. Know It All remains a No. 1 Hot AC hit, and Daughtry's Crawling Back to You is in the top 20 of both USA TODAY's AC and Hot AC airplay charts.
But suddenly Daughtry's Home and September, Kelly's Already Gone and Adam Lambert's Whataya Want From Me leap back into the top 10 of the Idol airplay chart. Chris Sligh and Phil Stacey return to the top 100. And over on USA TODAY's Christian AC chart, Mandisa's Waiting for Tomorrow catapults from No. 57 all the way to No. 9.
A few holiday tunes, like Carrie Underwood's Do You Hear What I Hear and assorted Clay Aiken tracks, are still registering, but they'll be gone next week as things get back to normal.
