Kelly Clarkson: 'People think I'm a lesbian because I'm not married'
The 29-year-old addressed rumours regarding her sexuality during an appearance on The View on Thursday, insisting that she has always considered her career to be more important than love.
"I'm from a small town, so everyone's married with children or about to have children," Clarkson explained.
"It's a little hard when you go home and people are like - and that's why people think I'm gay - because they're like, 'Why aren't you married?' And I'm like, 'It doesn't happen for everyone right off the bat!'"
The 'Mr Know It All' singer went on to say that she feels there is plenty of time for romance in the future, adding: "I think it's my purpose, music. I might not want to do this when I'm 50, so I might as well do as much of it now."
The singer also quipped that she would be considered an "old maid" in her home town, adding: "It's like in the Jane Austen era, when people were like, 'Oh, her glow's gone!'"
Clarkson recently confessed that she has never been in love and that her hectic touring schedule makes it difficult to find time for dating.
She has admitted to being a perfectionist and said that she wishes she had enjoyed her career success earlier on.
