Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson Biography: Kelly Clarkson, winner of American Idol's first season. Born in Fort Worth and raised in Burleson, Kelly grew-up with standard ambitions of serving the humanity. She desired to be Marine Biologist. Thankfully, those dreams were abandoned forever when she joined the school choir, at the age of 13, after her teacher found her singing to herself in the corridor. It was the first time her talent was found. While still in school, she performed in state and regional singing competitions, amazing the audience with her voice. After graduation, she moved alone to Los Angeles. With high hopes, she started sending out her Demo-Tape in order to achieve her first step in the music industry. Meanwhile, she managed to get some very odd jobs, such as Telemarketer, Red-Bull promo-girl, waitress, pharmacy assistant, movie theatre and even at the zoo. She also was an extra on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and worked briefly with songwriter Gerry Goffin. Kelly was forced to mo...

Kelly Clarkson: 'Songwriting is my therapy'

Image
Ken McKay/TalkbackThames/Rex Features Kelly Clarkson has said she considers songwriting to be like therapy. The 'Mr Know It All' singer admitted she has a penchant for writing sad songs, but said that expressing her feelings helps her work through anger. Clarkson told The AP : "If you look at my whole catalogue, there are far more sadder songs than happy. But that's only because writing is a form of therapy. "So obviously the things that you're getting out are the things that you've been going through and struggling with. You want to keep all the happy inside. If I'm going through a hard time, I write it out." Clarkson also said she makes no apologies for being brutally honest about her feelings in songs like 'Since You've Been Gone' and 'Because of You'. "I'm always vocal. People ask me and I tell them. If I have a problem, I say it. I'm never malicious about it, I just say what happened. And I think a lot of pe...

Music Review: Kelly Clarkson - Stronger (Deluxe Edition)

The first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson , lands this week with her fifth studio album, Stronger . With over 10 million albums sold within the U.S., Clarkson is no stranger to churning out rock-infused pop hits. As the followup to 2009's All I Ever Wanted , Stronger has the similar inflection of soaring anthemic melodies and sugary beats and cliches, but ushers in a new era for her. Clarkson may not have delivered on the level of her 2007 album My December , but she does pepper in enough angst and betrayal to make Stronger a solid and enjoyable ride. The lead single, "Mr. Know It All," is a one-two punch at the media (much like Britney Spears ' Femme Fatale ) and was written by craftsmiths Brian Seals, Ester Dean , Brett James , and Dante Jones . From the liquidy rhythmic line to Clarkson's unashamed phrasing, "All" is all you could ever want in a modern pop song. At first listen, you might suspect it is just ano! ther sta b at the male counte...

Kelly Clarkson is finally at ease

Image
By RYAN PEARSONAssociated Press Kelly Clarkson is photographed in Los Angeles last month. (AP photo) It may have taken some time, but Kelly Clarkson seems to finally be releasing an album without any drama on the side. Everything is good, everything is happy, she said, laughing brightly during a recent interview to promote Stronger, released last week. Its a different scenario than her last two albums: She went through public disputes with legendary executive and mogul Clive Davis over her third album and with OneRepublic singer-songwriter Ryan Tedder after her last album was released. They were typical of the bold stances shes taken that proved her to be more than the passive, malleable product of a hit TV competition, establishing her as an artist instead of just a voice. Ive been a fighter since I started walking, she said, adding casually and genuinely a line that could be lifted from one of her inspirational songs: We get one life. You want to make sure that youre living it how yo...

Kelly Clarkson, the Role Model Next Door

Image
Arun Nevader/WireImage Kelly Clarkson performing in May. THE other night, Danielle Travali, 25, was listening to Kelly Clarkson s new album, Stronger. Ms. Travali has fought her brigade of demons and then some, describing herself as an eating-disorders survivor. I am not a schmaltzy type, said Ms. Travali, who edits an online womens magazine in Fairfield, Conn., during a phone interview. But as Ms. Clarkson sang The War Is Over, she said, tears were rolling down my face. As someone who has struggled with low self-esteem and body image, I have such a strong appreciation for powerful women who sing their truth. Kellys songs are not just about failed relationships with others, but failed relationships with ourselves. Boom! Im learning here: What did I do to hurt me? For a decade, Ms. Clarkson has been belting power-pop hits like I Do Not Hook Up and Since U Been Gone, and dismissing withering criticism of her weight. As a result, her fans have built a distinctive relationship with her: l...

Kelly Clarkson, and Three Other Stars Who Said They've Never Been in Love

Kelly Clarkson has had an exceptional music career, but she hasn't been quite as lucky when it comes to romance. In spite of her heartfelt lyrics about relationships, the first "American Idol" winner says she has never been in love! Clarkson blames her busy schedule for keeping her single for so long, but also admits that she puts up barriers to stop herself from getting hurt. The "Breakaway" singer is one of many celebrities who have admitted to having dating issues. Here are three other stars who have said they've never been in love. Robert Pattinson Although he has swarms of women falling at his feet now, Robert Pattinson once claimed that he had never felt that special feeling of being in love. Before "Twilight," RPattz confessed that he found it difficult to get a date, but since he has been playing the sparkly vampire, he is never short of offers! It seems as though his days of being lonely are over at last, as he has finally admitted to b...

Sneak Preview: Kelly Clarkson Gets Sassy On VH1 Unplugged

Image
Did I just do that [song] Erin Brockovich style? Its just seconds after Kelly Clarkson has wrapped the first track of her five song VH1 Unplugged set when she peers down at her chest, wondering if one of her breasts managed to sneak its way out of her red bandage dress during her performance, just like what happened to the titular heroine of the film that won Julia Roberts an Academy Award back in 2000. Well, spoiler alert, it didnt, but this near wardrobe malfunction gave Kelly the inspiration for some of the most playful between-song banter that weve heard in quite some time during the shows taping in New York City earlier this afternoon. VH1 Unplugged: Kelly Clarkson will be debuting exclusively on VH1.com at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, November 17, which will be followed up the next with the shows on-air premiere. We dont want to give too much about the show away at this juncture, as wed rather you be able to experience it fresh through your own eyes and ears. That said, we will ...

Kelly Clarkson: 'People think I'm a lesbian because I'm not married'

Kelly Clarkson has revealed that many people from her hometown think that she is lesbian because she isn't married. The 29-year-old addressed rumours regarding her sexuality during an appearance on The View on Thursday, insisting that she has always considered her career to be more important than love. "I'm from a small town, so everyone's married with children or about to have children," Clarkson explained. "It's a little hard when you go home and people are like - and that's why people think I'm gay - because they're like, 'Why aren't you married?' And I'm like, 'It doesn't happen for everyone right off the bat!'" The 'Mr Know It All' singer went on to say that she feels there is plenty of time for romance in the future, adding: "I think it's my purpose, music. I might not want to do this when I'm 50, so I might as well do as much of it now." The singer also quipped that she would...

Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Florence Welch, and Jennifer Hudson to headline this years Vh1 Divas

Image
Image Credit: Ethan Miller/Getty Images for Clear Channel The annual VH1 Divas show has become something of a referendum on the biggest female singing stars in the music world. Last year featured ascendant stars like Katy Perry, Keri Hilson, and Nicki Minaj, and previous Divas include Beyonc, Adele, Jordin Sparks, Miley Cyrus, and Whitney Houston. This time around , the headliners are no exception: Kelly Clarkson, Florence Welch, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jessie J, and Jill Scott are all scheduled to perform. Its a return date for Clarkson, Blige, Hudson, and Scott, while Welch and Jessie J will be making their Divas debuts. This years show will also feature the Roots (who will serve as the house band, presumably because of federal law that requires them to back up everybody) and will pay tribute to a number of influential musical cities, including Chicago, London, Detroit, Memphis, and Philadelphia. The show airs December 19. So lets go ahead and do some fantasy booking, shal...

Kelly Clarkson beguiles with fifth album

Kelly Clarkson has been wowing audiences with her powerful voice since she burst onto the scene as the first American Idol winner a decade ago. Since then, the dynamic singer has sold millions by making female empowerment anthems her mantra, from booming pop-rock songs that call for women to stand up for themselves to finger-wagging tunes that tell not-good-enough men that they're not good enough. Clarkson's fifth studio album, Stronger, addresses the same issues with a "richer and fuller" sound than usual: Clarkson said she wanted to sound like she does when performing live, without employing any of the modern day tuning aides. The result is a more natural sound that allows her already explosive voice to bloom even more. The record is full of danceable tracks that just won't budge from your humming repertoire. Whether it's pop, rock, 1980s riffs or electro streaks, Stronger has all the ingredients for a well-balanced offering. Clarkson worked on the eclectic ...

Kelly Clarkson strong as ever on new album

(Reuters) - Kelly Clarkson is concerned. She released her new album Stronger this week and thinks it is her best work yet, but whenever something like that happens she worries nobody will like it. The 13-song collection finds Clarkson working with a handful of new songwriters on some tunes and continuing to write her own music, which she has done since winning TV singing contest American Idol in 2002 at age 20. While many past Idol winners have failed to rise to the heights of superstardom, Clarkson has enjoyed chart-topping success with pop rock singles such as "Miss Independent" and the smash hit, "Since U Been Gone." But at age 29, the Texas native now has seen both highs and lows in her career, and she knows that even if she thinks her songs are great, the fans are the ultimate decision makers. "Whenever you love something so much -- and I think this is my best yet -- I think sometimes when I think like that, it means no one's going to like it," sh...

Kelly Clarkson: 'Stronger' - Album review

Image
Released on Monday, Oct 24 2011 Published Wednesday, Oct 26 2011, 11:56 BST | By Lewis Corner | 3 comments "This is the first record that my label and I have agreed on everything," Kelly Clarkson recently said about her new album Stronger . While this claim should sound entirely normal for an artist on their fifth outing, it comes with a Texan ranch-sized dollop of resonance for the original American Idol champ following a decade of heated exchanges and artistic differences with her label. So, could this be Kelly's most rebellious offering to date? Trailer single 'Mr Know It All' proves she still has plenty to say about controlling personalities in the parts of her life that don't involve her investors. "You don't know a thing about me," she asserts over an urban-country mix of fluttering piano and growling guitars; safely sliding back into her anthemic soft-rock sound like a comfy pair of slippers in winter. 'What Doesn't Kill You (...

Kelly Clarkson: 'I would tell younger self to enjoy success'

Image
Kelly Clarkson has said that she had to learn to enjoy success earlier in her career. The 'Mr Know It All' singer revealed that her tendency towards being a perfectionist often keeps her from living in the moment and appreciating career highlights as they happen. Clarkson told MTV News : "I think I can be a very serious person, so I think me taking everything so to heart... especially when I first started out, anytime I slipped on a note or forgot a word or I'd do something wrong, that wasn't huge, [but] it was just like, it wasn't perfect. I was very much a perfectionist. "I fight that still, but I'm a lot easier now. I wish I could tell myself 'Enjoy it', because an emotional performance is way better than a perfect performance. I think I would have told myself to enjoy it more." Clarkson has claimed that hew new album Stronger is the first that her record label has agreed on . She recently joked that she wants to "punch" Ad...

Music Review: Kelly Clarkson - Stronger

Image
Multiplatinum artist, Kelly Clarkson , unleashed her fifth studio album, Stronger , as a special Monday release on October 24. Known for her incredibly powerful and soulful vocal prowess and her unabashedly honest lyrics, Stronger showcases Clarkson at her all-time best. "What separates this album are the vocals," Clarkson says in its press release. "They sound richer and fuller, and, for the first time, how I sound when I'm performing live. The producers I worked with just let me sing and be me. They didn't strip away the personality. "And it was one of those things where if the people I'm working with have confidence in me, I have more confidence in myself and that changed everything. I can't wait to perform these songs on tour. I think that's the best way to get to know an artist, and where you get to see actual personality, because we can't hide much onstage." Clarkson co-wrote five of the 13 tracks on Stronger , which was produced ...

Kelly Clarkson On Romance: 'I've Never Been In Love'

Kelly Clarkson has said her career as a superstar singer has gotten in the way of her romantic life. "Obviously it's really hard to date when I'm on four different continents in a week," the powerhouse vocalist told USA Today. "Even if I do meet a great guy, I ain't ever gonna see him. There's only so much you can do with Skype!" PLAY IT NOW: Kelly Clarkson: Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton's Wedding Reception Was 'Fricken Fun'! Kelly Clarkson Calls Stronger Her 'Best Album'

Kelly Clarkson 's Stronger, the follow-up to 2009's All I Ever Wanted, is an album full of power pop that finds Kelly delivering an empowerment message with her signature sassiness. Released on Monday (October 24), Stronger is a mix of ballads and uptempo tracks. Lead single "Mr. Know It All" kicked off the release and sets the tone for the record, which includes production and songwriting credits from industry heavyweights like Toby Gad, Clarkson fave Claude Kelly, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and Brian Kennedy. "I worked really hard on it," said Clarkson, who is now five albums into a nearly decade-long career. "And it's my best album, I think, to date." The singer had to deal with some issues, however, including some delays before the record finally got an official release date; many tracks even leaked onto the Internet. But Clarkson knows how to handle adversity, as her album title reflects. "There were a few different ti...
