Cancer patients remake Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" music video
The cancer patients at Seattle Children's Hospital are the stars of a YouTube music video -- lip-syncing to Kelly Clarkson's song "Stronger".
Eleven-year-old Lauren Selden is the spirited girl holding the fighter sign, wearing a black tank top and glasses.The Hilo native is diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, an extremely rare and aggressive form of bone cancer.
"The support that people are giving and all the nice things that they are saying, it just really helps. It's very nice to hear," said Selden.
Nicknamed "Roar'n Lauren", she was a daredevil at derby but last summer the natural athlete began complaining of knee pain.In July 2011, Lauren flew to Washington, where doctors successfully removed a tumor along with most of Lauren's femur before replacing it with a donor bone.Lauren lost her long, auburn locks undergoing chemotherapy buthasn't losther faith or sense of humor.
"I'm just glad that people can see it's (cancer) a real thing, it happens to real people," Selden said over the phone from her hospital room.
The video, which was shot by a fellow cancer patient, gives a rare lookinside a hospital, where the nurses dance through the halls and provide the laughter.
"We wanted to show people that there is happiness in the face of traumatic illness and you know there's just a lot of cool stuff that happens in hospitals," said Lauren's mom, Piper.
The video is an international hit, with more than 1.4 million views and counting.Lauren and the other children received a surprise message from Clarkson.
"It's so beautiful and it's so meaningful and thank you! so much for sharing it with us," Clarkson said in part to the patients and hospital staff.
However, despite the relief from the everyday struggles, Lauren is home sick.
"I miss my friends and family in Hawaii, my nana, my grandmother, and all my friends," said Selden.
