Kelly Clarkson to perform

WSU students should hurry to purchase tickets to Kelly Clarksons Moms Weekend concert as they are selling fast, said Leo Udy, director of Beasley Coliseum.

Clarkson, two-time Grammy award winner and season one champion of American Idol is set to perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday in Beasley Coliseum, ending her Stronger tour of North America.

Along with winning two Grammys, Clarkson has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, has had seven singles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has won two American Music Awards, two MTV Music Awards and 11 Billboard Music Awards, according to a WSU press release.

There arent very many tickets left, Udy said.

WSU has sold about 6,500 tickets so far out of about 6,800 tickets they have available, which is probably a little more than they sold last year, he said.

Udy said they found out Clarkson was going to be in San Diego on the last leg of her North American tour and convinced her to come and do a concert in Pullman for Moms Weekend. Clarkson decided to do Wenatchee the night before, and will come to WSU on Saturday, he said.

The show will last anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours, Udy said.

As far as choosing who is to perform for Moms Weekend at WSU, Udy said there are always a lot of artists that are on WSUs wish list.

It comes down to who is available and who is touring, he said.

Most of the time, WSU gets artists who will fly in and do the show because it is hard to get people who are doing tours in the area, he said.

So far during her tour, Clarksons set list has included the songs Since U Been Gone, Breakaway, My Life Would Suck Without You and her new hit song Stronger (What Doesnt Kill You), according to Clarksons website.

Opening for Clarkson is the American alternative rock band Carolina Liar whose hit songs include Show Me What Im Look! ing For and Im Not Over.

Udy said the response toward Clarkson coming to WSU has been very positive from the beginning.

We sold a lot of tickets early, he said.

Vanessa Keller, a freshman speech and hearing science major, said she is excited to see her.

Its cool that our school could get someone like her, she said.

Calli Martinez, a senior psychology major, said she is also looking forward to see Kelly Clarkson perform.

I listen to her fairly frequently, she said. I feel she is pretty comparable to the concert last year.
