Kelly Clarkson has had a good run since her initial victory on American Idol.Shes released several albums, all of which have been wildly successful. And now, shes helping others reach the same level of success on the new show Duets.
Clarksons latest milestone happened on July 4th, giving her that much more to cheer about on an already celebratory day. The big accomplishment? Kelly Clarkson beat out Carrie Underwood to become the Idolwinner with the best-selling record. As of July 4th, Clarksons Strongerhad sold over3,510,000 copies, a seriously impressive figure for any recording artist. Ca! rrie Und erwoods hit single Before He Cheatshasnt done too shabby either since its release in 2006, selling3,509,000 copies. The crazy thing, though, is that Carrie Underwood had six years to reach the 3.5 million mark and Kelly Clarkson has accomplished that in a much shorter period of time.
Carrie Underwood may have been bested in the battle of the singles, but shes still going strong with album sales. Underwood has so far sold13,205,000 albums, with Clarkson trailing behind with a total of11,664,000. This means that when Simon Cowells prediction that Underwood was going to sell more records than any other previous Idol winner has come true! Unless, of course, Clarkson comes out with another killer album. It would be pretty difficult to top Underwoods Some Hearts,the best-selling female country debut in the history of the Recording Industry Association of America and, of course, the top American Idoldebut album. But hey, its a worthy goal to shoot for!
