Summerfest Day 3: Train and Kelly Clarkson
Train and Kelly Clarkson co-headline Summerfest, throwing a 1-2 pop punch tonight at the Marcus Amphitheater.
Clarkson was the first winner of "American Idol" a decade ago and has since built a successful career as a singer and actress, releasing five successful albums including last year's "Stronger."
San Francisco's Train found instant success with its self-titled 1998 debut, and rode the wave through 2006. After a three-year hiatus, Train released, "Save Me, San Francisco" in 2009 and it promptly earned a gold record and the single, "Hey, Soul Sister" was certified quintuple platinum.
The group's latest record, "California 37," came out back in April.
Brett Dennen opens the 7:30 show.
Tickets range in price from $39.95 to $70.65 and include Summerfest admission. Buy them at the Marcus Amp box office or via Ticketmaster.
OnMilwaukee.com staff picks for Friday:
I'm not much for Kelly Clarkson, but she's sharing a stage with Train, who does put on a pretty good show. Catch the package deal starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Amp with opener Brett Dennen.
In more exciting musical news, Walk Off The Earth hits the U.S. Cellular Connection Stage bright and early (in Summerfest time) at 5:30 p.m. They took YouTube by storm after they covered Gotye's smash "Somebody That You Used To Know," but there's much more to their repertoire than one cover even if it is ! better t han the original. Don't believe me? Watch it here. Renee Lorenz
One of the best parts of Summerfest, at least for me, are all the other entertainment options outside of music, so I'd check out the Division BMX Stunt Team might be fun at 8 p.m. at Uline SportsZone on Friday. Jim Owczarski
I am definitely going to see the legendary Jimmy Cliff at 10 p.m. on the Briggs and Stratton Stage. At 64, I wonder how long Cliff will continue to tour, so I gotta see one of my favorite Jamaican musicians while I still can. However, after writing this, I will have "You Can Get It If You Really Want" looping in my head for the next day or two. Argh. Molly Snyder
Our own Jaill plays the U.S. Cell at 8 p.m. on Friday, opening for The Hives, who hit the Cell Stage at 10. Bobby Tanzilo
I'll probably take Friday off and mow the lawn, but if I had to pick, it would be Jimmy Cliff at the Briggs Backyard at 10 p.m. I really enjoy live reggae, and you can't do much better than seeing the only living musician to hold Jamaica's Order of Merit. Andy Tarnoff

It seems fitting that pop`s coolest nerd would perform on the hottest day of the year. While it cooled down decently for Ben Folds Five`s 90-minute set at the BMO Harris Pavilion, that didn`t stop Folds` legendarily blazing piano skills from searing themselves into the crowd`s ears.
The modern rock legends that are the Foo Fighters have made a select few U.S. stops on th! eir most recent tour, but nothing is sure to come close to their gig at Summerfest`s Marcus Amphitheater. At least, that`s how the rockers made it feel.
Molly Snyder thought the Red Hot Chili Puppets show today at Summerfest`s Children`s Theater & Playzone would include a cloth-sock-version of Flea backing up a googly-eyed Anthony. No dice.
