Kelly Clarkson: I gave One Direction a song for their Up All Night album because they're cute

One Direction are currently on their first headline tour of the US

Kelly Clarkson is thrilled that One Direction nabbed one of her songs for their debut album.

Kelly, 30, penned one of the tracks on Up All Night and helped Zayn Malik, 19, Louis Tomlinson, 20, plus 18-year-olds Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Harry Styles to find global fame.

'I haven't met them yet but they covered a song that I wrote, Tell Me A Lie, on their album,' says Kelly, 30, who won American Idol in 2002.

'I was going to record it myself but then I heard they were interested.'

Not wanting to give a good tune away without knowing who it was going to, Kelly did some research on the 1D boys.

'I Googled them and thought, wow, they're not only cute but they're good!' Kelly tells You magazine.

'Let 'em have it!'
