Kelly Clarkson's 'Dark Side' rises
Even though Carrie Underwood's Good Girl stays on three USA TODAY airplay charts -- AC, Hot AC and Country -- it slips from No. 1 to No. 4 on the Country chart this week. As a result, overall Good Girl spins drop, meaning it likely won't overtake Kelly's Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You). Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson's new single, Dark Side, jumps from No. 40 to No. 10 on the Idol airplay chart, suggesting that the No. 1 spot won't be far behind.
Dark Side isn't the only single with a big airplay jump. Phillip Phillips' Home continues to find more favor with Hot AC stations, and even a few Top 40 stations. Its spins nearly tripled last week.
On the downside, it looks like Scotty McCreery's latest, Water Tower Town, is over at Country radio without ever breaking into the top 40 there. The single drops from No. 28 to No. 33 on the Idol airplay chart.
Also, Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks' Celebrate -- from the Sparkle soundtrack album, which is scheduled for a July 31 release -- finds itself at No. 23 on the Urban AC chart and No. 36 at AC.
