Kelly Clarkson: My Home Had Just Burnt Down When I Won Idol

Kelly Clarkson has been talking about life before fame.

The singer got her big break on the first season of American Idol way back in 2002 but in a new interview with Now she admits she had low expectations of the show at her first audition: "Honestly, I thought the show would be the biggest joke in the world"

But Kelly decided the pursue the opportunity, admitting she had to do something as her life was spiralling out of control: "My home had just burnt down and I had to move. I needed money for electricity. It was rock bottom for me."

Kelly went on to win the show and carve out a hugely successful career. Despite her success she admits that fame nearly drove her to a breakdonw five years after Idol. At the height of her stardom she did nine tours and "was working every day.There was so much pressure and everyone just kept pushing. I didn't realise I was the boss or that I had the power to say no."

The Stonger singer eventually decided to shift her priorities admitting "I have no desire to be the biggest star in the world. I'd rather have a life and be semi-famous."
