Kelly Clarkson joins Jason Aldean in Nashville
Kelly Clarkson sang Don't You Wanna Stay with country singer Jason Aldean Thursday night in Nashville, in the same venue where the two singers debuted the song in November 2010.
The moment came during Aldean's concert at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. Usually, Lauren Alaina, who opens the shows on Aldean's tour, returns to the stage to perform the song with him. But Clarkson, a Nashville resident, let Aldean know a few days before that she'd be in town and would join him.
Usually, Lauren enters on an elevator at the back of the stage, but Kelly didn't do that because she was wearing heels and couldn't walk on the grates in the stage floor. "I didn't get the memo," Aldean said afterwards. So he was caught looking for Kelly at the rear of the stage as she entered from the side. "I heard everybody start screaming, but I didn't know where she was."
The two singers performed the song live for the first time during the 2010 Country Music Association Awards shows, which broadcasts from the Bridgestone Arena. They won Musical Event of the Year for their recording at last year's CMA Awards.
Don't You Wanna Stay, which reached No. 1 on USA TODAY's Country airplay chart last year, has sold 1.955 million downloads, according to Nie! lsen Sou ndScan.
