Kelly Clarkson - Kelly Clarkson 'stronger' Than Katy Perry At The Top Of The U.S. Pop Charts

Kelly Clarkson has returned to the top of the U.S. pop charts a week after she was dethroned by Katy Perry. Perry became only the 20th act to debut at number one when her Part of Me crashed in at the top, but now she swaps places with Clarkson and falls to four as the American Idol star reclaims the peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 with Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You). Adele's Set Fire to the Rain holds at two on the new countdown, while British boyband The Wanted rocket into the top three at three with Glad You Came.

Kelly Clarkson demanded autocue for Super Bowl

Wed, 29 Feb 2012 10:20a.m. Kelly Clarkson decided to "cheat" by using a lyric prompter at the Super Bowl - because she didn't want to risk singing the wrong words in front of 111 million viewers. Clarkson was terrified of flubbing the lyrics to the US National Anthem - as Christina Aguilera did in 2011 - so she begged her manager to find an autocue to feed her the lines at the sporting extravaganza earlier this month. She tells US radio programme The Bert Show , "I tried to cheat. I told my manager, 'People are killing her (Aguilera)! Just have them up somewhere on video, we'll make it look like it's for the crowd!' I felt so sorry for her - they killed her. Honestly, we're human and how often do you sing that song? Never!" But the singer admits her plan nearly backfired when the teleprompter malfunctioned. She recalls, "They didn't do it right... I'd sing the line and it would come up with a delay. I was like, 'Now it's ...

Even with a shortened release week, Carrie Underwood's Good Girl , which she debuted Thursday, enters USA TODAY's Country chart at No. 37. It's the fourth Idol song on this week's Country chart, where Scotty McCreery's The Trouble With Girls is at No. 16, Casey James' Let's Don't Call It a Night is at No. 23 and Lauren Alaina's Georgia Peaches is at No. 31. Kelly Clarkson - Kelly Clarkson Is 'bossy As Hell'

Kelly Clarkson says she now always stands up for herself ever since she suffered a near breakdown caused by overworking. Kelly Clarkson is ''bossy as hell'' ever since she suffered a near breakdown. The 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)' singer was miserable in 2007 because she was being worked too hard and after finally standing up for herself, she is enjoying being more authoritative. She told Now magazine:'' We did nine tours, I had no life. I was working every day. There was so much pressure and everyone just kept pushing. I didn't realise I was the boss or that I had the power to say no. In the end, I just told everyone; 'I have no desire to be the biggest star in the world. I'd rather have a life and be semi-famous'. I'm bossy as hell now, I love working but it isn't my whole life.'' Kelly also revealed she regrets using Auto-Tune on one of her biggest hits 'Since U Been Gone' because it makes all singers...

Kelly Clarkson joins Jason Aldean in Nashville

Image
Kelly Clarkson sang Don't You Wanna Stay with country singer Jason Aldean Thursday night in Nashville, in the same venue where the two singers debuted the song in November 2010. The moment came during Aldean's concert at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. Usually, Lauren Alaina, who opens the shows on Aldean's tour, returns to the stage to perform the song with him. But Clarkson, a Nashville resident, let Aldean know a few days before that she'd be in town and would join him. Usually, Lauren enters on an elevator at the back of the stage, but Kelly didn't do that because she was wearing heels and couldn't walk on the grates in the stage floor. "I didn't get the memo," Aldean said afterwards. So he was caught looking for Kelly at the rear of the stage as she entered from the side. "I heard everybody start screaming, but I didn't know where she was." The two singers performed the song live for the first time during the 2010 Country Mu...

Song of the Week: 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You),' Kelly Clarkson

Image
Kelly Clarkson, Nietzschean superhero. The hottest songwriter in America at the moment isnt Lady Gaga, or Dr. Luke, or Bruce Springsteen. Its German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Im joking, a little. But Nietzsche, who died more than a century ago, has supplied the world with a catchphrase that contemporary recording artists cant get enough of. In "Twilight of the Idols," his 1888 condemnation of conventional morality, Nietzsche suggested that which does not kill us makes us stronger. Nietzsche may have been referring to the 18th-century German novelist Goethe, who once wrote something very similar. Nietzsche and Goethe might have been surprised to learn that in our own century, popular recording artists would spin gold from the maxim. Kanye West built the chorus of "Stronger" around the philosophers words. And now Kelly Clarkson an Idol nowhere near her twilight has brought a little Nietzsche to the top of the Billboard charts. Clarksons "Stronger (What ...

Kelly Clarkson sings her heart out

Its been nearly 10 years since Kelly Clarkson first stepped in front of a microphone on American Idol. Back then, she blew away the competition with her powerful voice and went on to become the winner of the first season. Over the past decade, Clarkson has demonstrated staying power and a knack for remaining true to herself. Clarkson released her debut album, Thankful, in 2003, less than a year after her American Idol triumph, and the album soon went double platinum. Since then, her star has continued to rise. In 2005, Clarkson won two Grammy Awards, both for performances from her second album, Breakaway, a disc that sold 5 million copies. The singer, who will turn 30 in April, has recorded a string of songs that showcase her take-no-guff attitude from the men in her life, songs such as Miss Independent and Since U Been Gone. Clarksons latest release, Stronger, continues that trend. Clarkson has said she was inspired by such artists as Tina Turner and Sheryl Crow when she was making th...

Clarkson stronger than ever at Clearwater show

By ROB SHAW | The Tampa Tribune Published: February 22, 2012 Updated: February 22, 2012 - 9:47 AM CLEARWATER -- Forget about Taylor Hicks, Kris Allen and David Cook. Kelly Clarkson, the original American Idol from a decade ago, is going stronger than ever before. Earlier this month, she was hand-picked by the NFL to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. Less than two weeks ago, she took the stage at the Grammys to belt out her duet of "Don't You Wanna Stay" with country singer Jason Aldean. Heck, she's even going to be lending her talents to the "The Voice" on NBC next month. But for nearly 90 minutes in Clearwater on Tuesday night, she belonged to a sold-out crowd at Ruth Eckerd Hall. From the moment she took the stage, nearly everyone was standing the entire night. They sang, they bounced, they danced from high-heel-wearing middle schoolers to gray-haired grandparents. They didn't care if she was 29 and still single. It didn...

She's pure pop talent

CLEARWATER It says a lot about Kelly Clarkson that the current controversy hanging over her head is all about, well, the blunt curtain of hair hanging over her forehead. Forget about domestic abuse or vocal-cord blowouts or sex, drugs and related rock detritus: The inaugural American Idol champ is so tabloid-free, so relatively reclusive in her private life, we get in a frenzy, a froth, a fervor about her bangs. As she proved to 2,180 hyped-up fans at a sold-out Ruth Eckerd Hall on Tuesday, the 29-year-old Texan is the rare pop star who succeeds almost completely on pure, soul-kissed talent. She's one of the best-selling artists of the 21st century because she can wail almighty, with only Christina Aguilera and Adele around to match her chops. Of course, there's a part of Clarkson that wants to be perceived as edgy, as her 90-minute set opened with screen projections flashing accusatory headlines: "FAT" "LOSING SPONSORS?" "ALBUM LEAKS AGAIN!" She ...

Video: Kelly Clarkson Covers Demi Lovatos Skyscraper

Image
Kelly Clarkson and Demi Lovato - Getty Demi Lovato already had her dreams come true when she got to perform a holiday duet with her idol and Americas first American Idol Kelly Clarkson at the Z100 Jingle Ball last year, but this still has to be pretty epic for her. During a section in her current tour where she takes song requests from fans, Clarkson chose to sing a cover of Lovatos powerful ballad Skyscraper. And it doesnt really come as a surprise that Kellys version of the track, minus one lyrical slip up, which she played off so cutely, was fan-damn-tastic. We would totally love it if Demi and Kelly got into the studio and made Skyscraper an official duet. Watch Kelly covering Demi below: via MJs Big Blog

Kelly Clarkson - Kelly Clarkson Hit Rock Bottom Before Idol

Kelly Clarkson expected 'America Idol' to be the ''biggest joke in the world'' but auditioned for the show because she had hit ''rock bottom''. Kelly Clarkson only entered 'American Idol' because she had hit "rock bottom". The 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)' hitmaker admitted she was at a low point after her house went up in flames and when she first auditioned for the first season of the show - which she went on to win in 2002 - she had no idea how successful it would be. She said:" Honestly, I thought the show would be the biggest joke in the world. But my home had just burnt down and I had to move. I needed money for electricity, it was rock bottom for me." Kelly has since gone on to become the most successful'Idol'contestantaround the world, with over 24 million albums and 37 million singles sold worldwide and although there were rumours of a clash with former judge Simon Cowell, she says he ...

Concert review: Kelly Clarkson at Universals Mardi Gras

Kelly Clarkson had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction in the opening moments of her energetic show on Saturday at Universals Mardi Gras, but not the Janet Jackson kind. The original American Idol was wearing a new pair of pants, accented by chains dangling around the ankles. Not a good idea, it turns out, fora singer whospends so much of her time on stage jumping around. I have, like, a thousand chains ripping my feet, Clarksonconfessed in her chipper, highly caffeinated wayto a crowd that packed the plaza in front of the stage. Theyre gonna need ice, Im just saying. With her glittery microphone and sparkling personality, Clarkson showed that, a decade after her Idol crown, shes still thegirl-next-door justonewith a string of pop hitsa mile long. She delivered plenty of them in a well-paced, stylishly designedand musically solid 80 minutes. In between the songs, she was aChatty Cathy about everything from her favorite singers (Demi Lovato is among them) to the members of her band, the sto...

Kelly Clarkson Fluffs Her Lines In Campaign Outtakes

Image
Kelly Clarkson is seen getting tongue-tied and joking around for the camera in a new outtake video released by the Do Something campaign. Kelly, who triumphed in the first season of American Idol ten years ago, tries her hand at a hair-whipping head turn and struggles to get her lines out in the clip. DoSomething.org operates in the US alongside the VH1 Save the Music Foundation to encourage young people to advocate for music education through a Battle for the Bands campaign. In 2011, the program engaged over 20,000 teens in advocacy efforts. The organisation hopes that the 2012 program will build on that success and get even more students involved in a national video contest. Kelly is currently No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for a second week with her new single 'What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)', which soared above the 1 million domestic sales barrier to keep hold of the crown. Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone' Gets A Pop Up Video!

Image
Posted 4 hrs ago by Byron Flitsch in Celebrity , Music , Videos Back in 2004, Kelly Clarkson released the breakup anthem and insta-classic " Since U Been Gone ," a song that focused on embracing some much-deserved revenge on an ex. But because our friends over at VH1 know how much we loved watching the sweet-as-pie singer destroy her ex-boyfriend's amazing apartment (and that stellar record collection), they gave our favorite Kelly moment the " Pop Up Video " treatment. Hooray for breakup paybacks -- again. Watch Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" Pop Up Video after the jump! Instead of just relishing in Kelly's H.A.M. revenge sesh, we get personal with our favorite "American Idol" alum. Very personal: We learn that she gave up deodorant for a while (don't worry, she's back on it now), and she doesn't wear underwear (!!!). We also find out that Kelly's favorite scent is vanilla, and she even has a slight fear of...

Star Spotting: It's Official, Kelly Clarkson Has The Most Perfect Bangs

Image
Posted 5 hrs ago by Nicole James in Celebrity , Photos Kelly Clarkson rocks out in Hollywood, Fla. I've never been to a Kelly Clarkson show (I KNOW!) but it's among my top three daydreams -- the other two include a date with Jake Gyllenhaal and brunch with Rihanna . So I can only imagine that a live K. Clark show would be as amazing as they always look in photos. Kel rocked the eff out at a Florida show recently, and she asked for a little assist from the audience. I WISH I WAS THERE TO ASSIST YOU, KEL. But let's talk about those bangs really quick. Like many girls, I've been through several of my own "I'm getting bangs!" phases throughout my life, but as soon as the stylist takes the first go at them, I immediately regret my decision for the following 14 months, the amount of time it takes them to grow out. But Kelly's like, the official Queen of the Bang. She's performing her butt off (probably sweating a lot, TBH), and not a hair is out of pl...

Kelly Clarkson at Universal: Girl-next-door makes good

Kelly. Clarkson , that is. We're not quite yet on a first-name basis a la Cher , Beyonc and, dare we say it, Whitney but Kelly Clarkson , who performs Saturday at Universal's Mardi Gras , is making that kind of connection with America's heart. It has been 10 years since Clarkson was swept into the spotlight as the first winner of "American Idol," one of the few TV shows that still approaches water-cooler conversation status in the age of 500 channels. As its first ambassador, Clarkson had the weight of the show's credibility on her shoulders. Win tickets to Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil! She carried the burden with ease, moving beyond her Idol anthem " A Moment Like This " to establish her own pop career on the momentum of a string of hits such as " Miss Independent ," " Because of You ," " I Do Not Hook Up " and " My Life Would Suck Without You ." The latter shot from No. 97...

Kelly Clarkson Engaged? Diamond Ring Spotted At 2012 Grammys [VIDEO]

Kelly Clarkson gave an amazing duet performance with country star Jason Aldean at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards last night, but fans of the "American Idol" winner were more interested in the large diamond ring on the singer's finger. Within minutes of the duet, Twitter was flooded with speculation about whether the singer, who recently wowed viewers with her rendition of the National Anthem at Super Bowl 2012, was engaged to be married. That curiosity has not abated on Monday. "Since when is Kelly Clarkson engaged /married?!," one user tweeted. "That's DEFINITELY an engagement ring on her finger..." Kelly Clarkson is not a lesbian

She said: "I'm not gay. If I was, I'd say: 'I love women!' That's why it drives me nuts. But I feel like even if I did say it, people would be like, 'you're just trying to do that to win the gay audience'." Kelly, 29, admits she is confused by the public's obsession with her love life, but says she enjoys being a single lady. She told Now Magazine: "People are really concerned about my relationship status. "When I tell people I'm happy being single, they don't believe me. They say: 'You have to be miserable being alone'." The former 'American Idol' winner previously admitted she has never been in love, but believes all that will change when she meets the right man. She told USA Today: "I've never been in love. I've never experienced certain things, and I think that's because I have this side of me that is shut off. Because I haven't found anybody yet to open to that I feel like, ...

Kelly Clarkson: My Home Had Just Burnt Down When I Won Idol

Kelly Clarkson Singer fancies Superman star. The 29-year-old singer revealed the 'Superman Man of Steel' actor has caught her eye although she is happy being single for now. She said: "The new Superman Henry Cavill is frickin' hot. God did good on that one. "People are really concerned about my relationship status. When I tell people I'm happy being single, they don't believe me. They say: 'You have to be miserable being alone'." Kelly has endured rumours about her sexuality since winning 'American Idol' in 2002 but says she would have no problem admitting if she was gay. She told Now magazine: "I'm not gay. If I was I'd say 'I love women!' That's why it drives me nuts. But I feel like even if I did say it, people would be like: 'You're just trying to do that to win the gay audience'." Clarkson plays the Majestic one day after playing Super Bowl

What a difference a day makes. Kelly Clarkson goes from singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl pregame Sunday to bringing her Stronger tour to the historic Majestic Theatre on Monday. It's just another day in the life of the award-winning original American Idol winner. Her down-home appeal (the rare charm of a genuine smile) is the secret ingredient, according to Jed Gottlieb of the Boston Herald . Kelly Clarkson's stage set is skimpy by Katy Perry standards. The original American Idol's' J.C. Penney style is painfully un-hip compared with Lady Gaga's grandeur. Her booty, well, let's just say Beyonc would dress that thing up, wrote Gottlieb in a recent review. But what other stars consider faults are Clarkson's assets ... You can't fake what Clarkson has: honest, earnest, down-home appeal. The Times Union , too, found her genuine and unscripted in her between-tune patter, amiably chatting with fans in the front rows at a recent concert. It...

Hometown fave Kelly Clarkson still rockin' our world

By Heather Svokos hsvokos@star-telegram.com Dear Kelly, I'm hesitant to ask this, because I know you're ...A) super-duper busy with your Stronger world tour (can't wait for Friday's show at Verizon Theatre! Squeal!)B) insanely popularC) a Ron Paul supporterD) not into chicksBut, I wanted to know if you would ... um ... ugh, this is so embarrassing. Would you be my valentine?OK, well, let me clarify: My crush on you is strictly platonic. (I'm taken, and very much in love.)Also -- and I realize this puts an awful lot of pressure on you -- I'm not asking if you'll be just my valentine. I'm asking for my co-workers, who all seem to have a thing for you (even the jaded music critic who prefers the indie rock of men with beards). North Texans have it bad for you, being the homegirl and all. But, come on, we all know your allure has spread beyond the Metroplex.Let's face it, Kells. You're America's rock 'n' roll sweetheart.I can't pict...

Image Credit: Evan Agostini/AP Following a well-received national anthem at the most-watched Super Bowl in television history, Kelly Clarksons career is Stronger than ever. The title track of her latest album climbed atop Billboard s Hot 100 today, forcing Adeles Set Fire to the Rain into second place, and became the original American Idols third number one single. (She formerly reached the Hot 100 summit in 2002 with A Moment Like This and in 2009 with My Life Would Suck Without You.) Kellys not the first diva to get a big Super Bowl boost. When Cher sang the national anthem in 1999, Believe hopped from No. 13 to No. 4 and then hit No. 1 a few weeks later. When Whitney Houston honored the U.S. in 1992, her single All the Man that I Need moved from No. 8 to No. 1 in three short weeks. It took Kelly only three days. Kicking off the biggest event in the sports zeitgeist certainly has its advantages. But there was more at play here than just a great rendition of the anthem. For sta...
