AM I the only one who's tired of Clarkson's "Miss Independent", girl-power shtick? Powerful pipes aside, the first American Idol adheres much too closely to her formula of bubblegum break-up anthems on her fifth album.

While competent, songs such as I Forgive You fall short of the standard set by hits like Since U Been Gone (2004). Still, on You Can't Win, one almost buys into the edginess she is trying so hard to sell.
