Kelly Clarkson to judge new talent show

Kelly Clarkson has joined the judging panel of new TV talent show 'Duets'. The 'Stronger' hitmaker - who found fame on the first series of 'American Idol' - will join forces with music legend Lionel Richie, as well as Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke on the upcoming ABC series, which is set to debut this summer. After scouring the US for undiscovered talent, 'Duets' will see the celebrity mentors paired with aspiring vocalists for a live performance in front of a studio audience each week, with the eventual winner bagging a recording contract with Hollywood Records. Kelly said in a statement: 'The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people that I believe in, sing with them every week, and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing that I can't wait to be a part of.' The 29-year-old singer - who worked as a guest mentor on 'The Voice' last year - has previously admitted she has been given a 'hard time' beca...

Image Credit: Harper Smith ABC is getting into the singing competition series game with Kelly Clarkson and Lionel Richie. Entering a field thats more crowded than ever (and, given all the shows on the air, arguably more popular than ever), ABC is launching Duets . The show has Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles, Richie, and Robin Thicke traveling across the country looking for undiscovered talent. Each star will choose two singers to be their duet partners. Together, they will take the stage each week and perform in front of a live studio audience. In the end, only one duet will win, with the amateur receiving a recording contract. Clarkson called the talent show completely different than other broadcast singing competitions. They dont audition like a normal process, she says. We get to collaborate with the artists that we choose. We get to go find the talent we really believe in. The series premieres this summer on ABC. Heres a preview:

Kelly Clarkson on Ron Paul backlash

Kelly Clarkson earned some buzz in December when she showed some love for Ron Paul. The American Idol winner wrote on her Twitter feed, I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 hes got my vote. Too bad he probably wont. Continue Reading Paul fans obviously appreciated the support (Paul himself even touted it ) and helped boost Clarksons music sales , but Paul detractors didnt and gave Clarkson sufficient grief . In a new interview in the March 15 issue of Rolling Stone, Clarkson explains the media whirlwind that resulted from a simple tweet. Im hanging out with my brother and my little niece, playing Barbies, and Ron Paul comes on TV. He doesnt BS around anything. I was like, This dude is refreshing. All I did was tweet what I thought, and people went crazy! All of a sudden people were like, You hate gay peoplewhat? I didnt even endorse him! All I said was that I lik...

Live Review: Kelly Clarkson in Niagara

Image
NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. - She may have almost taken a header during her second encore song and huge hit, Because of You, but Texas belter Kelly Clarkson was otherwise in top form during the first of two sold-out nights at Fallsview Casino Resort on Friday evening. You caught me, the spirited and likeable 29-year-old singer said to a fan at the front as she came close to falling as she sang the ballad towards the end of her hour-and-20 minute set. In my defence - it was pitch black up here! she joked afterwards, recovering nicely with two major rockers - Mr. Know It All and Miss Independent - which put a nice rock-pop punctuation on the end of the show. Otherwise, up to that point, the American Idol: Season One winner, backed by her eight-piece band, including Canadian guitarist Cory Churko, had really let it rip vocally - making it look effortless - as she easily tackled pop, rock, blues, soul and gospel. Versatile, yes. Graceful, maybe not so much, but who cares? Im just trailer park tras...

Weekly Chart Notes: Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Madonna

CATCH(Y)PHRASES: Sometimes a song's lyrics lift an unfamiliar expression to pop culture prominence, from R.E.M.'s 1991 hit "Losing My Religion," a Southern saying that translates to losing one's patience, to Adele 's "Rolling in the Deep" last year. ("'Deep' is an adaptation of a kind of slang phrase in the U.K. called 'roll deep,' which means to always have someone that has your back, and you're never on your own," Adele has said ). Other smashes don't impart such obscure knowledge. Good thing they're catchy. Kelly Clarkson 's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" follows in the tradition of hits that have co-opted familiar phrases. Her survivor's anthem rebounds 4-1 on the Billboard for a third total frame at the summit. (As it ascends, "Stronger" becomes the longest-reigning leader by an "American Idol" graduate. Previously, Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" ...
