Clarkson will perform new single 'People Like Us' on the programme, according to numerous sources.

She is also tipped to sing at this Sunday's Association of Country Music (ACM) awards in Las Vegas, appearing alongside artists including Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and Hunter Hayes.

Clarkson revealed in a magazine interview earlier this year that she would have liked to audition for American Idol in front of Mariah Carey, who is making her debut at the judges' table this season.

She also said that she felt the addition of Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban has given the long-running reality singing competition a much-needed shake-up.
