TUSCALOOSA | Kelly Clarkson, one of the most successful of the singers launched by American Idol, will play the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on Sept. 7.
Opening act will be Colorado-based rock band The Fray. The show will start at 7 p.m. Sept. 7, which is a Friday night.
Clarkson won the inaugural season of AI. Her first full-length album, Thankful, debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200, setting the tone for future AI winners.
As she began to grow free of the AI machine, Clarkson developed a more rock sound, based around her love of bands such as Radiohead, Garbage and Aerosmith, in addition to soul singers such as Aretha Franklin and Etta James. Her five studio albums have gone platinum, with the 2004 Breakaway selling more than 6 million copies.
Her No. 1 hits include A Moment Like This, My Life Would Suck Without You and the recent Stronger (What Doesn'! t Kill Y ou). Worldwide and in the U.S., Clarkson has had numerous other Top 10 singles, including Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, Walk Away, Never Again, Mr. Know-It-All and Because of You.
Formed in 2002 with a piano-driven sound, The Fray hit big with its first single, Over My Head (Cable Car), which became a Top 10 U.S. hit in 2006. The follow-up How to Save a Life became a worldwide Top 10 hit. 2008's You Found Me also hit Top 10.
