AMERICUS Word spread quickly Thursday that singer Kelly Clarkson was in Americus. Clarkson was spotted at Cafe Campesino and outside of the Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel. Michael Tindol, owner of Mane Street Salon on South Lee Street is one of Clarksons many adoring fans. He said a friend called him Thursday morning and told him the American Idol winner was at the Windsor. Tindol rode around and waited for his chance to meet the star when she walked out of the downtown hotel. Meeting her was one of my life goals, said Tindol, who is also a Kelebrity, an avid follower of Clarkson on various social networking websites.
Clarkson was in Sumter County filming a television spot at Andersonville National Historic Site, but NHS representatives could not provide confirmation of Clarksons visit. Eric Leonard, Chief of Interpretation and Education did say that Thursday a filming permit was completed in the park, but could not go into details on what the production was or who was involved. In recent years weve done two to five film permits a years for small documentary programming that tells parts of the Andersonville st! ory. On average we see three descendants of prisoners a day. Connecting those visitors to their ancestors stories here at Andersonville is an important part of the public trust that we are committed to, Leonard said.
