Kelly Clarkson Isnt Going Country Just Yet
Kelly Clarkson is known as a pop star, but in the 10 years since being crowned the first American Idol, she has recorded duets with country stars Reba, Jason Aldean and Vince Gill but not a single pop star. The reason? Pop stars turned her down on eight separate occasions.
I have, like, 5,000 duets in country music, Kelly told the Huffington Post. I dont have one in pop. Thats legitimately because everyone turns me down. Im not even kidding. Ive asked sooo many artists to sing with me. Everyone legitimately turns me down! The only one that hasnt was Chris Daug! htry.
Kelly, who has been a Nashville resident for the last six years, will release her first Greatest Hits collection on November 19. Her Dont You Wanna Stay duet with Jason Aldean will be included as well as a few new songs including Dont Rush, the soulful country tune she recorded with Vince Gill. Despite her ties to country music, shes not planning to leave her pop career behind just yet.
Im not ever gonna be one thing, she said. I want great music. I dont care what it is. Im not gonna record a country song just to be on country radio. I want it to be something Id legitimately have on my album, if Im having a pop, R&B, whatever album. I guess its hard for people to wrap their heads around. I dont want to be pigeonholed.
