Duets, whichwill air this summer,will feature singers Kelly Clarkson -- who was crowned American Idol's first-season champion -- Jennifer Nettles, Lionel Richie, and Robin Thicke as they individually search America for talented singers worthy of performing with them. Each star will eventually select two singers to be his or her duet partners, and together, they will perform onstage each week for a live studio audience rather than simply judge themfrom a panel. Billboard.biz reports Clarkson, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke have signed on for Duets, a new reality singing series produced for ABC. Each of the four singers will comb the country in search of undiscovered talent to mentor, and each will choose two singers to be their duet partners for weekly performances with one winner getting a recording contract with Hollywood Records. "What first drew me to the whole idea of the show Duets," explains Kelly, "was the fact that it's kinda completely different, in the sense that we actually get to collaborate with the artists that we choose. Songstresses Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland) join Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke as stars of Duets , ABCs version of The Voice and American Idol , EW reports. The Duets cameras will follow the four stars cross-country as they search for Americas best and brightest undiscovered talent. Once they find their perfect partner, or partners, the singers will join the contestants on stage to perform a duet in front of a live studio audience. In the end, the last amateur standing wins a recording contract. With the addition of Duets to primetime, three of the big five networks now have a primetime singing competition on air. When asked about the show, Clarkson said, Its completely different. We get to collaborate with the artists that we choose. We get to go find the talent we really believe in.
