Kelly Clarkson to perform at Nokia Theatre

Image
Kelly Clarkson may have won the first season of American Idol . But her post- Idol career is far more remarkable. In the decade since winning, Clarkson has released five albums that have sold over 20 million copies worldwide, earning two Grammys and numerous other awards in the process. That's quite a feat for any artist, let alone a reality show contestant. And when was the last time you heard the names Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks or Lee DeWyze, all of whom were past Idol winners? Just goes to show that winning American Idol isn't a guarantee that you'll have a successful career in show business. Which is why the career of Kelly Clarkson is such an anomaly. At 29, she's already headlined four world tours, the latest of which has garnered the best reviews of her career. On Tuesday, April 3rd Clarkson will perform at the Nokia Theatre, before capping off the first leg of her StrongerTour on April 14th. Kelly Clarkson Breaking Away At The Pearl

Posted: Mar. 30, 2012 | 2:01 a.m. You like Kelly Clarkson because she's like you. Well, you're not exactly the same. She can sing and people enjoy being in her presence. But other than those obvious differences, the point is, Clarkson's a lot more relatable than most pop divas. She doesn't possess the pinup physiques of the Britneys and Katy Perrys of the world, Barbie dolls let loose from their packaging. Nor does she radiate the icy cool detachment of Beyonce or Rihanna. Instead, Clarkson is all aiming-to-please energy and enthusiasm, giving big voice to songs about refusing to be a doormat while acknowledging that she's occasionally been just that. And, she seems to really enjoy and appreciate her position as a pop star. Just like you would, right? Contact reporter Jason Bracelin at jbracelin@ reviewjournal.com or 702-383-0476.

Women win the week for 'Idol' downloads

Image
The guys may be on a roll when it comes to winning American Idol , but the women still dominate when it comes to downloads. This week, the five top-selling tracks from Idols all belong to women -- including Kelly Clarkson's Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) at 150,000, Carrie Underwood's Good Girl at 69,000 and Haley Reinhart's Free , which debuts with 35,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Soundscan. On top of that, Kelly Clarkson reaches another 2-million milestone with her Don't You Wanna Stay duet with Jason Aldean. Scotty McCreery is the Idol guy with the top-selling track, having moved 11,000 copies of The Trouble With Girls last week. Look for new single Water Tower Town to get a big boost next week, since Scotty will perform the song on Idol this Thursday. Performing on Idol helped Lana Del Rey's sales, too: Weekly downloads of Video Games more than doubled following her appearance on Thursday's results show. Kelly Clarkson, Stronger (What Do...

Kelly Clarkson eyes country after pop hits

Image
Kelly Clarkson already has taken over the pop formats. Now, she's got her sites set on the country chart. While Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) spends another week at No. 1 on USA TODAY's Top 40 and Hot AC charts, Kelly has worked up a fiddle-and-steel version of Mr. Know It All with Nashville producer Dann Huff to send to country radio . The new track will be available on iTunes April 3. It won't be the first country single for Kelly, of course, she has had hit duets with Reba McEntire ( Because of You ) and Jason Aldean ( Don't You Wanna Stay ). She also has a house in Nashville. Meanwhile, the country chart has plenty of Idols, with Carrie Underwood, Casey James and Lauren Alaina all in the top 30. Scotty McCreery's The Trouble With Girls has moved to recurrent status. That single drops out of the top 10 on the American Idol airplay chart this week, making room for Jennifer Hudson and Ne-Yo's Think Like a Man . Other acts with charting singles this w...

Kelly Clarkson Goes Country With New Version of 'Mr. Know it All' (Video)

Clarkson is no stranger to the genre, having already had success with 2010's, "Don't You Wanna Stay," her duet with country hottie Jason Aldean . The new version of the songis a tad twangier and slower. It features more guitar, less drums and simpler production. STORY: ABC Orders Summer Singing Competition Show 'Duets' with Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke "Hey everybody, I got to work with Dann Huff and recut 'Mr. Know It All' for country radio! I hope y'all like it!!," Clarkson tweetedon Wednesday. "I had a lot of fun recutting the song and getting the opportunity to work with Dann! Kelly Clarkson keeps it real at ShoWare Center

Originally published March 23, 2012 at 10:42 AM | Page modified March 23, 2012 at 10:44 AM Concert review | Kelly Clarkson hit the stage Thursday at Kent's ShoWare Center following a string of accusations projected on a curtain: "failure," "fat" and "album leaked again." "I wrote this song about breaking unhealthy habits and cycles," she said, moving her body in a tight sway to "Because of You." It was the deepest-cutting song of the night, about recognizing the root cause of one's anxiety and depression. Four thousand people belted the unwieldy chorus: "Because of you I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt." Clarkson, who won the first "American Idol" competition in 2002 on the strength of her powerful soprano voice, has remained the rare adult pop star who unlike Katy Perry or Ke$ha doesn't use music to promote the dirty/flirty party life. Instead, she sings about self-love and men...

OFFSTAGE: Kelly Clarkson Covers Shania Twain

Image
Kelly Clarkson ( CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.) I hate admitting this out loud, but as much as I love Shania Twain 's music, I was never a big fan of "You're Still the One." But now, after watching a video of Kelly Clarkson belting out the sultry ballad at an Ontario tour stop, I'm amazed. It's as if there is no country hit Clarkson cannot nail. The former American Idol winner also told the crowd that Shania Twain's 1995 album, The Woman in Me , was the first Twain record she ever bought. So not only did that little admission come out, but then Clarkson tweeted yesterday (March 21) that she's going to release a country take on her own pop hit, "Mr. Know It All," in a couple of weeks. She reworked the song with the help of Nashville session musician and producer Dann Huff, who has worked with Keith Urban , Rascal Flatts , Faith Hill ,...

Kelly Clarkson countrifies 'Mr. Know It All'

Image
Kelly Clarkson has never been afraid to flirt with her country side. In 2008, the Texas native sang in an episode of CMT Crossroads with her idol Reba McEntire. In 2010, she collaborated with Jason Aldean for the crossover smash Dont You Wanna Stay. And just this weekend, Clarkson joined her pal Miranda Lambert on stage for a performance of Gunpowder and Lead. Now, though, the original American Idol is officially stepping into the country world with a countrified remix of her single Mr. Know It All. Clarkson announced the news on Twitter this morning, writing, I had a lot of fun recutting the song and getting the opportunity to work with Dann [Huff]! The song will be available on iTunes on April 3. Some radio stations have already been spinning the country remix, which I wouldnt say is actually all that country. Sure its got some added twang, but it mostly just feels like a pop song dressed up with mandolins and pedal steel. Still, as country radio continues to embrace a pop sound (a...

Kelly Clarkson should be more American idle when it comes to performances

(Steve Griffin | The Salt Lake Tribune) Kelly Clarkson sings to the crowd during her concert at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Review Singer reduced to belting out songs of heartbreak. Near the halfway point of her Tuesday night concert at the Maverik Center, Kelly Clarkson made a joke that revealed more than she might like to admit. The 29-year-old singer introduced a song called "I Forgive You" by saying that she obviously didnt write it because of the sentiment expressed. At a glance Kelly Clarkson Bottom Line Kelly Clarkson overpowers her message through lack of restraint When Tuesday Where Maverik Center, West Valley City With Matt Nathanson And that was one of the problems with her 90-minute show. Kelly Clarkson Covers Shania Twain's 'You're Still The One,' Nails It (VIDEO)

Image
Posted 43 minutes ago by Byron Flitsch in Celebrity , Music , Videos Kelly Clarkson can do no wrong, and her recent cover of Shania Twain 's "You're Still The One" while on tour in Ontario proves that yet again. Not only are we digging the throwback to early 2000s country-pop, but were loving Kelly's cover-palooza (she's also put her own spins on Madonna and Paramore recently). Honestly, Kel could spend an entire evening singing the ABCs and we'd still swoon like fools. Watch Kelly Clarkson cover Shania Twain's "You're Still The One" after the jump. A fan video captures Kelly chatting with the audience about being a Shania Twain fan as she admits that Shania's 1995 album, The Woman In Me , was the first record of the country singer's she ever purchased. (She's still rocking those amazing bangs , BTW.) We imagine a younger Kel probabl! y listen ed to Shania on repeat (because who didn't?) and decided that -- when she ...

Kelly Clarkson in a strong performance at the Fox

Conventional wisdom had it that Kelly Clarkson should be Already Gone. When she won an untested singing competition a decade ago, there was no telling how this would play out for her. But the first American Idol winner just keeps going, hitting the top of the charts with her What Doesnt Kill You (Stronger) hit and filling concert halls. She brought her new tour to a sold-out Fox Theatre Friday night in a show that highlighted her distinct strength, that voice as hers, as well as her weakness, some of her original material, albeit catchy. It was definitely a case of a great voice over occasionally blah material. Presumably aiming to shake her fans all night long, if the pre-recorded AC/DC track that blasted just before she took the stage was any indication, the chatty Clarkson was everything one should expect her to be. Various Clarkson headlines focusing on everything from weight to losing sponsors to her music leaking were flashed across a stage-front transparent screen, and Clarkon a...

OFFSTAGE: To Know Kelly Clarkson Is to Love Her

Image
Kelly Clarkson ( CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.) The more I get to know Kelly Clarkson , the more I love her. In big ways, like when she helped Blake Shelton by mentoring (and being a big fan of) his team on The Voice . And for the way her power ballads keep popping up on country radio. And for the way she duets with some of country's finest, like Reba McEntire and Jason Aldean . Then I've recently discovered I also love Clarkson for the little reasons, like how she wore a black corset dress from good ol' Anthropologie to a Grammy post-party at Hollywood's swanky Chateau Marmont. As opposed to, say, Prada or Roberto Cavalli, whose threads also graced the pages of the April InStyle . And for the candor she has in interviews. In Rolling Stone , Clarkson admitted she doesn't mind losing at the Grammys "as long as I don't get beat by someone who sucks....

Kelly said in a statement: 'The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people that I believe in, sing with them every week, and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing that I can't wait to be a part of.'
