Ron Paul effect boosts Kelly Clarkson CD

Published: Dec. 31, 2011 at 12:53 PM Slideshow LOS ANGELES, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- It's not known how Kelly Clarkson 's endorsement will help Ron Paul 's U.S. presidential campaign, but Amazon.com said it seems to be helping her record sales. The online retailer said sales of Clarkson's CD "Stronger" perked up after the singer voiced support for Paul's campaign earlier this week. Amazon said sales of "Stronger" surged 200 percent in the 72 hours after Clarkson said on Twitter she was impressed with Paul and would vote for him. The spike lifted the album from No. 41 on Amazon's sales rankings to No. 13. The Hollywood Reporter said Clarkson's tweet didn't impress everyone. There were a number of responses chastising her for her support of a candidate some saw as tolerating homophobia. Clarkson's response was to remind fans disagreeing with someone doesn't justify attacking them. "Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people t...

Kelly Clarkson sales spike after endorsing Ron Paul

Small Text Medium Text Large Text Danny Moloshok/Reuters NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - A word of advice to prospective American Idol contestants: vote libertarian. One day after she announced her support for Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul on Twitter, sales of pop singer Kelly Clarkson's most recent album were surging Friday on Amazon.com. Sales of Clarkson's album Stronger shot up 442% between Thursday and Friday afternoon on Amazon, moving the album from #38 to #7 on Amazon's sales list. While there's no way to tell whether her support for Paul was the only reason for this jump, the endorsement clearly made a difference for some fans. "I must admit I have not really followed you but your recent stance on Ron Paul made me check you out," one fan wrote Friday in a review of the album on Amazon. "If you are smart enough to support Ron Paul then you are probably talented too." "JUST DISCOVERED YOU...BECAUSE OF RON PAUL!" another wrote. ...

First, a little background from HuffPo : I love Ron Paul. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 hes got my vote. Too bad he probably wont. Kelly Clarkson endorses Ron Paul; incurs wrath from Twitter

"American Idol" pop queen Kelly Clarkson has always identified with fiesty underdogs, and her support of Ron Paul seems to be no different. On Wednesday, she took to her Twitter and Who Say accounts to write, "I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't." Not exactly the confidance booster Paul is likely looking for she may as well have written, "Hey, good luck NOT winning!" but it was enough to spark an onslaught of criticism from Clarkson's followers, who lambasted her choice in light of the controversy surrounding newsletters issued from Paul or his operatives in the '80s that used racist and homophomobic language. Kelly Clarkson's support of Ron Paul irks some of her fans

Shortly after Kelly Clarkson said she'd be voting for Ron Paul if he won the presidential nomination for the Republican Party in 2012, the first-season "American Idol" winner found out her politics aren't particularly popular with her fan base. "I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent," the "Mr. Know It All" singer said Thursday on social media outlets like Twitter and WhoSay. This was following fans criticizing her for endorsing Paul while he's in an ongoing controversy stemming from allegations that in the 1980s and '90s, newsletters with racist and homophobic slurs were sent out under his name. "I do not support racism," she said. "I support gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. "I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country," sh...

Kelly Clarkson accused of supporting racism

KELLY Clarkson hit a sour note with her fans after throwing her support behind Ron Paul in the Republican presidential primary. The American Idol winner tweeted to fans : "I love Ron Paul ... if he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't." But her praise has angered fans, who have called her homophobic and racist for supporting the congressman, who has come under fire for racially derogatory comments contained in newsletters he published around 20 years ago. "Wow, so a pop star endorses a lunatic racist, homophobe and anarchist? Kelly Clarkson, you need to look at Ron Paul closely," one Twitter user wrote. Another added: "That's too bad that Kelly Clarkson had to open her mouth about endorsing Ron Paul." Clarkson took to her blog clarifying: "I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women's rights, men's rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. ...

Christmas week does wonders for Idol sales

Image
Scotty McCreery sold 85,000 copies of his Clear as Day album last week, taking total sales of the album past the 800,000 mark. According to Nielsen SoundScan, that's Scotty's best sales week since the second week of his album's release. All the other American Idol acts on The Billboard 200 -- Daughtry, Kelly Clarkson, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin and Mandisa -- also scored double-digit percentage gains in their weekly album sales. But don't get too optimistic: With the holiday shopping season done, most album sales are about to plummet like a rock. Idol albums Scotty McCreery, Clear as Day (85,000, +28%, 833,000) (#11 Billboard 200) Daughtry, Break the Spell (58,000, +49%, 299,000) (#21 BB200) Kelly Clarkson, Stronger (41,000, +50%, 426,000) (#39 BB200) Lauren Alaina, Wildflower (18,000, +39%, 214,000) (#90 BB200) James Durbin, Memories of a Beautiful Disaster (13,000, +31%, 70,000) (#129 BB200) Mandisa, What If We Were Real (11,000, +30%, 134,000) (#155 BB200)...

Kelly Clarkson is Stronger

Reflecting on how her fifth album, Stronger, came together, compared to her previous efforts, Kelly Clarkson gushes, "Oh, it was so much easier!" She breathes this out as though something heavy is being released from her and her Texas drawl, previously kept in check, rolls out with it. "We just really clicked, the whole team that went into this album," she says. She was in sync with executives at her record label, RCA, and her A&R guy. She connected with the co-writers she'd been eyeing, Greg Kurstin (Sia, Kylie Minogue) and Rodney Jerkins (Destiny's Child, Mary J. Blige). And just generally, she thinks there was another important factor at play: "I think, because it's my fifth album, people are getting more used to me, like writers know me better, producers know me better. I think it becomes a lot easier with each record." But what about the fans, or even the casual pop-watchers? What do we know about Kelly Clarkson? We've had since 2...

'Idol' airplay: Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert

Image
Holiday tunes take up half the top 10 on this week's American Idol airplay chart, but three current singles manage to find a place there, as well. Kelly Clarkson's Mr. Know It All (#15 AC, #1 Hot AC, #11 Top 40) remains an easy No. 1 for Idol airplay, though its spins appear to have peaked. Daughtry's Crawling Back to You (#37 AC, #9 Hot AC) comes in at No. 2, while Scotty McCreery's The Trouble With Girls (#25 Country) takes the No. 7 spot. Next week's chart should look markedly different, as Christmas airplay plummets. In particular, look for this week's No. 100 debut to make a big leap. That would be Adam Lambert's Better Than I Know Myself , which had 54 spins in its first week, led by San Francisco's Alice @ 97.3 (KLLC-FM). Even if Better Than I Know Myself doesn't pick up a lot of spins (though it'll almost surely gain some, and maybe a bunch), the diminished play for the 30 seasonal songs on this week's chart should guarantee it...

'VH1 Divas' History: From Katy Perry To Kelly Clarkson

Sunday night (December 18), some of the music industry's most-soulful divas will be taking the stage for the latest installment of "VH1 Divas." That first show gathered Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Mariah Carey, quickly becoming a pop-culture milestone. It even prompted the ladies of "Saturday Night Live" to poke fun at the over-the-top singing styles and personalities of the women chosen for the show.
