Kelly Clarkson Gets Engaged: What Else She's Been Up to in 2012
It was a big weekend for Kelly Clarkson. The 30-year-old singer revealed that she is engaged to boyfriend Brandon Blackstock. Blackstock, a talent manager, made it official after a year of dating by proposing to the "Idol" alum with a stunning large canary yellow diamond ring. Clarkson showed off the rock at the VH1 Divas concert on December 16.
If Kelly's previous comments hold true, a wedding could be coming fast. In November, she expressed her desire to skip out on a fancy ceremony. "Honestly I've never been the girl to plan a wedding," she told Ellen DeGeneres. "We will totally, probably elope."
The engagement is easily the biggest news for Clarkson in 2012, but it's not the only big thing to happen for her this year. Here is a look at some of the other things that she's been up to.
She got a lot of love from the Grammys in December
Less than two weeks before Brandon popped the question, Kelly was nominated for multiple Grammy awards. Her album "Stronger" was nominated for the Best Pop Vocal Album, while the single "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" earned her nods for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. In addition to the "Idol" alum's individual recognition, the song also earned a nomination for Song of the Year. The singer has received several nominations in the past, and has taken home two awards in her stellar career.
She released a greatest hits album
It seems like yesterday that Kelly beat Justin Guarini to win the first "American Idol" title. But after 10 solid years of performing music, the star finally released a great! est hits album. Her compilation album "Greatest Hits: Chapter One" was released in November, and it included a couple of new tracks, including the hit "Catch My Breath." Best of all, the title of the album suggests that at least one more compilation album will be released in the future.
She was a mentor on "Duets"
She might have risen to fame on "American Idol," but Clarkson's been doing work on some of the show's rivals. Earlier this year, she appeared as a guest star on the hit singing competition "The Voice." Then, she served as a regular mentor on the show "Duets." She joined John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, and Robin Thicke in the reality show, which features the stars performing duets with the contestants. When it comes to singing competitions, it's safe to say that Kelly is all over the place.
